De incidentie van dengue-infecties lijkt elk jaar verder toe te nemen. Hoewel de meeste dengue-infecties zonder of met lichte symptomen verlopen, kunnen ze ook gepaard gaan met ernstige neurologische complicaties. Een secundaire infectie met een ander type van het denguevirus dan de primaire infectie geeft een hoger risico op een ernstig beloop. De therapeutische opties bij een dengue-infectie zijn beperkt en vooral gericht op het behandelen van complicaties. De diagnostiek is afhankelijk van hoe lang de klachten al bestaan. In dit artikel worden twee patiënten besproken met ernstige neurologische complicaties bij een dengue-infectie op Curaçao.
