De International League Against Epilepsy heeft in 2017 2 nieuwe classificaties gepubliceerd, voor epileptische aanvallen en voor de indeling van epilepsie. Deze classificaties hebben als doel om een transparantere terminologie te hanteren die geschikt is voor toepassing in de klinische praktijk, onderwijs en onderzoek.
